When the winds Blew...

...Hogmanay got cancelled. The only thing about which I was all so 'eggszited'off-late, got cancelled. Rewind..(Kabul Express Style).
Rushing from office and telling Bye-bye and wishing office guys for the new year we left in a hurry. Thanks to Meril, we missed a bus. Forgetting all those little instances that make or break a trip, we finally did Reach Scotland by midnight. A lovely city that Edinburgh was, it was all lit up and looking like a glamorous actress all set to rock the stage. The acco that we had managed to book was great too, thanks to Mr. Sanjeev chadda. We all woke up late and 'collected' Sachin from the Waverley station. Had a couple of rides on the Carousel. Then towards the Edinburgh castle. Small in size but strategically placed it gave an excellent view of the whole city and an awesome ocean view. The history of the rock dating back to 200AD or even further back is just astounding. The Royal Mile also offered the much needed shopping. And it was evening already... we were supposed to attend the night afore festival, which was the street fest of german artistes. But somehow due to my wrong planning and certain unplanned activities, we missed the theatre fest. We had gone for some spinning ride. It was fun.
It was fun cooking. Have almost become a pro in it, mussay... :) (Unless people who eat my cooked food deny it). The next day.. the last day of the year... was pretty sad.. with gale winds blowing at about 100kmph. The Scottish weather is nothing different from a mood-swinging teenage girl. the weather goes thru such turbulence and unexpected changes that the forecast inevitably fails on a daily basis. It rains, shines, blows, its cloudy, windy, drizzles all within a span of 2 hours. Its outrageous. We did dare to take a walk amidst all of this. Walked to the holyrood palace. Its the scottish abode of the royal family whenever they come to this Northern part of UK. Its not used that often, cos they rarely come to Scotland. Its a gloomy palace. Its a really gloomy palace. When asked to the housekeepers they said that the rest of the house would be better, maintained well. But no one has access to those rooms. The whole palace would not be bigger than twice the Hawa Mahal of Jaipur. Ok even if I was a bit generous not more than 3 times. Anyway, on our way back, we did the much awaited Scottish shopping. I picked up a gift for a friend back home. And we hit for home. Had a short party (Am grinning.. ). Just when we were about to leave for the Hogmanay fest, I get a message from the Lothian police saying that the fest is canceled. That was the most anticipated event cancellation ever. the winds were just tooo strong, and the artistes could have never performed in that chilly weather. By the way, we were supposed to go for a Ceilidh concert(pronounced as Kheeleid, I think). Its more like a Scottish dance concert. All went down the drain. i got sloshed(almost..) and went for my bed. I guess the New year dawned when I was fast asleep. Anyway, from the videos and fotos that i saw the next day which had been taken, it looked as if Jeril and Sachin had a blast. Malavika and I had gone overboard(not to be taken literally) :D. The next day dawned, or did it. My first ever hangover was too bad. The headache and the nauseating feeling was bad.
We got up and left for Arthur's Seat. Its a hilltop overlooking the city. Took a cab till the foothills. It was a nice place. Windy again, but nice. I had a headache all through, and finally made it to the train, back to Nottingham. The chineese food 'parcel' did come in handy. The day was OK-OK.. and John's Beans Poriyal and Curd Rice gave it the best possible ending. Thats the best dinner i have had till date. Thanks John.
and thats how the most eagerly awaited event of the year by. Not very eventful. huh? Better luck next time. Thats what i said to myself.
