Dubai Dreams
It came in like thunder of the clear sky. I never expected I would be traveling just 3 days later. But then it did happen. This is something I love about my employer. travel in company expenses. :) Dubai was not in my To-See list. But none the less, it was a place i would not mind seeing and experiencing the shopping city bang in between the desert.
It indeed is so hot!!! Its pretty shocking considering the fact that the local population(UAE Nationals) are only of a mere 17%, 50% of Indians, 16% Pakistanis, 9% Bangladeshis and so on.
The city has clearly been built with two things primarily - A BROAD mind and BIG kitty.
After the hectic working week all through that stretched itself from 8 in the morning till midnight, the weekend was no different. Boss made us work for 3-4 hours even on a Friday(Fridays are holidays in middle east countries). but then the following evening was nice. We all left(4 of us) for a Desert Safari. Its nice. At least its a different experience. a bit stomach stirring.. but still different. and i got a ride in a Land cruiser. The desert Safari started from our hotel where we were staying, where our driver came to pick us up. Then we hit for Al Aweer, a town near the Oman border. Then we hit on the desert sand. It was not as simple as it seemed. the drivers supposedly need a different license to drive in the desert, cos the game play is totally different. After the one hour drive in the desert, we hit one a small caravan type settlement which was more of a mini market with free issue of cool drinks, traditional robes for hire and sand boards(I tried it, but could not make head or tail of how it is done).
The time there was nice, and the best part was the desert moon which made the desert look all lit up. And the next best thing was the dinner. the chicken kebab was awesome, had about 3 servings of the same. Dinner was followed by 'entertainment'. The belly dancer did her job well, but the boredom of doing the same dance everyday had made her look tired and pale. After that we hit back on road and i dozed of on my way back. :-Zzzz
I also got to meet Shivram(Amrita friend) also in Dubai, That was the best part. He as usual was a 'non-complaining' great company. He took me shopping around in the places and took me on tour through the shopping places in BurDubai. It was no surprise to see the Aaryas, Saravana bhavan, Sangeetha, aappa Kadai and the likes of it, full most of the time.
just a week back and i had to return to Chennai.
Work front... that went on good too. But i knew that the next week in India is gonna be REALLY hectic. And guess what it is midnight here and am sitting in office and making this blog entry, waiting for others to finish their part so that we all can leave. yaaaaawwwn...
