Unsuccesful Attempt
Unprepared, Over-confident, Underestimating. NO.. this blog is not about the reason why India didn't make it even to the Super-8. This blog is about how my weekend went sore and painful.
My plan was to hike the Table Mountain, which incidentally is about 1000m above sea level. I started my day by having a pretty eventful journey in the share-taxi to the city and then from there to Cableway, en route Kamps Bay. Got down at the circle. All set to take the challenge head on, I started walking up the hill... err.. mountain. After about 30 minutes of serious steep climbing, is when i came to know that I had started too early. The hiking spot was at least 1 km away. Its not about the one kilometer which made me tired but the steepness of the climb. Phew.. It was exhausting. The came the lower cable station. Bought water, the most essential commodity of all. Took about 20 minutes rest. The sun was scorching on my face as it was about 1 pm. And wearing a black T-shirt on a sunny day is no joke. Found out the hiking route and proceeded. The spot where the hiking begun was further 1km. Walked along the same and started climbing. Man... I am not exposed to such levels of physical exertions. I was drained in almost 15 minutes again...
I took 10 mins break for every 5 minute climb. Finally reached a spot where the steep climb had subsided and it was the turn to walk along the mountain trail. Incidentally, there were lot of co-hikers, who inevitably I lost due to the pathetic pace that i was maintaining. All during this climb I had thought at least 5-10 times if it would be a good idea to return back. But then, every time i took rest, I rejuvenated and took it as a personal target to climb it. Kept walking along the stretch of the mountain for about an hour or so and came to a point from where i could have taken a easier hike. had missed it prior. Kept walking along for another 15 minutes and came to know that i had taken the wrong route.
So returned back, and took the decision to attempt the task some other day. I could have taken the cable car upwards and seen the table mountain. But I kept it as a target to only hike the mountain. so i returned back with a failed attempt to tame the mountain. :(
The next day, Sunday, I was supposed to go for 2 movies back-back. 300 and Mr. Bean. But my limbs were in total disarray when i woke up. It was just too much for me to handle.. phew... So just sat at home and the Sunday was sodding again.
